Time to put some art projects up again.

For these color wheels, the students had to draw a design, then repeat it with all 6 colors.

They had to arrange it in the proper order to make the color wheel.

It was very interesting to see the variety.

These are first & second grade symmetrical imaginary insects.

I worked with each individual student because I didn't trust all of them to have paint at the same time this early in the year.

The most fun part with this was to watch their eyes when we opened them and saw the bright colors. They were simply delighted!

They chose the shape and colors. I helped them follow directions.

These sunflowers were cut from yellow paper plates. The students had to weave the inside brown yarn to form the centers.

The first project with grades 1 & 2 was bubble painting. Some of you may wonder why I would choose this before I even knew how they would follow directions. I am also asking that question.

It didn't take long to decide that I will work individually and let my assistant take the rest of the class doing something else!

Paint & detergent are mixed and the kids blow in straws to make the bubbles. They put their paper on top of the cup to make these designs.

I only had one student who decided to suck instead of blow and I grabbed it out of her mouth before she got any inside. I was ready!
Again, the kids were delighted with the results and wanted to take them home that day!

And the canning continues!
This is what happens when you plant 4 banana pepper plants--all these are from those plants and there are a lot more on yet.

I think our peppers really liked all the rain this year.

Slicing, cutting, stuffing, pickling, canning!

Took their caps off!

A total of 41 jars in all! We (some of us) love these on pizza, in sandwiches and salads.

Sherri told me she had some jalapenos that she didn't want. She wasn't kidding!
I decided to try something new. We canned some, stuffed some with cabbage, and dried some.
Decided it couldn't hurt to try it.

Here's the canning factory and the chief in charge!

We wore gloves most of the time, but my hands were burning tonight.
Ask me next summer what we thought of them.

Virginia trip

The beautiful mountains in front of Joe & Crystal's house.

The weekend work begins. Getting the floor ready.

The flooring expert going to work.

Final sweeping.

Lunch break

We tried to convince Joe & Crystal that they really like this bright blue for their flooring.

Installing the ceiling fan and light.

The finished dining room. This table was Crystal's great-great grandpa's table. Crystal's dad and Joe refinished it and repaired it. Crystal painted the chairs. Crystal bought the hutch at an auction. Randy, Joe & Crystal put the wood floor in and stained & finished it.

Finished living room.

Another angle of the dining room. The door on the left goes to the back yard.
Dad put up the curtains and blinds.

This is the bookshelf that Joe built.

Another angle of the living room. The door to the right of the sofa goes into their laundry room.
That door, the closet door you see next to it and the door in the dining room all came from the old Newman family farmhouse before they tore it down this spring.

Sunday evening, Joe & Crystal had a barbeque for everyone who helped with their house.
This is Amanda & TJ, her friend, eating supper on the front porch.

Crystal, Jessica (sister) and Randy (dad)

Joe & Shawn, guy he works with at his other job.

Donna (Mom), Sonny (neighbor), Randy, Jessica

Grandpa Newman

Corn hole contest. TJ & Amanda against Donna & Randy. . .

. . . and the winners were D & R.

The family: Crystal, Randy, Jessica, Grandma Newman, Donna and behind her is uncle Eugene.

What a great weekend! The addition about doubled their main floor living space. It was a great project and Joe & Crystal deserve an applause for their great work! They passed their final inspection yesterday.
